If you want to know the denomination of former British silver coins, they are as follows: 3 Pence (th 'rp 'ny, joey), 6 Pence (tanner), Shilling (12 Pence, bob), Florin (2 Shillings), 1/ 2 Crown (half dollar), and Crown. The very old 4 Pence was also known as a groat or joey. Today there is silver Maundy money. Also, British money is sometimes referred to as sterling which is actually the term for the former 92.5% silver content of coins until about 1921. |
